The Moyenne island has no breakwater and showing up here conveys an extraordinary sort of sorcery: no place else in the Seychelles can match Moyenne’s feeling of remote location disclosure as you swim aground, barefoot, through the shore. As you arrive at dry land and make your most memorable strides along the tenderly climbing woodland trail, the trees close in behind you and you enter a different universe. Dappled daylight channels down through the shelter to the woodland floor, the temperature is cooler, and the island’s 16,000 trees – mahogany, palm, mango, pawpaw – planted by Grimshaw and LaFortune. By estimate Moyenne has more plant species per sq m than some other public park on the planet.
Once in a while, you might observe your way impeded by one of Moyenne’s almost 50 free roaming giant Aldabra turtles. They’re in no rush, and nor would it be a good idea for you be as you watch them pass.
